The ecologically rich waters of BC's north coast have been protected by a moratorium on oil tanker traffic since 1972. This ban on tankers through the Dixon Entrance, Hecate Strait and Queen Charlotte Sound is now under threat. Proposed projects such as the Enbridge and Pembina pipelines rely on the tanker traffic moratorium being lifted.

The Commercial Bear Viewing Association of BC was formed to promote sustainable bear viewing in British Columbia and aid in the protection of wild bears and their ecosystems. The work of this active group that teams with conservation groups, scientists, and government to come up with solutions that will allow us to live in better harmony with these magnificent creatures is documented at this website. "One threat to grizzly bears that we as an organization have been dealing with is the lifting of a moratorium on trophy hunting of grizzlies in BC. Others have taken up the ethical arguments about killing bears for sport. Scientists continue to debate the population arguments. We are in a position to put forth some compelling economic arguments."
